Again this was something we discussed on our way home tonight. I suggested to wifey that the next contest between the Opposition and PAP will boil down to only one thing: Talent.
If the PAP cannot recruit the best and the opposing side could; whereupon a critical mass of talent would also produce sensible manifestos, the PAP can rule as well as they want for the "long term" now, they are sure to get a black eye or worse in the next GE. It is as simple as that. No brains needed to figure this out. Microsoft struggled to perform when the best engineers chose Google over them. Facebook, Zynga, Twitter etc., came along and Google felt a lot of pressure; but in my view anticipated and responded much better than Microsoft.
There a is a lot the PAP can learn from Google beginning with, "Don't be evil"
PAP, there is much talent in Singapore. Please distinguish between between Talent and Trust. You were not after talent first but simply finding the talented people you could trust in very small pools. No wonder you were coming up so miserably short! No where were you more handicapped when looking for Gen Y candidates and had to field Ting Pei Ling. Keep to business as usual and in the next round you will be in deep trouble at the polls.
